Work With the Best
Hi, I am Rick Hamman, director of prtcoach.com. I have studied TMS, mindbody syndromes, and neuroplastic pain for over 20 years and now focus on using Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and related approaches to help people reduce or resolve chronic pain and chronic conditions.
My own pain story began in 2003, when I was diagnosed with a herniated disc and went through the typical medical pathway: injections, physical therapy, bodywork, acupuncture, specialists, naturopaths, and ultimately a back surgery that did not resolve my symptoms. Multiple evaluations made it clear that there was no ongoing structural problem to fix, which led me toward TMS and neuroplastic pain rather than purely structural explanations.
Over the years, I studied the work of Dr. John Sarno and learned from leaders in this field, including Steve Ozanich, Dr. Howard Schubiner, and Dr. David Schechter. Along the way, I also did deeper therapeutic work, including processing early life experiences that were contributing to a chronically activated nervous system. This combination of education, structured brain-based tools, and targeted emotional work is the foundation of how I now coach clients.
In my practice, I use Pain Reprocessing Therapy as the primary framework, supported by somatic exercises, tapping, and evidence-informed TMS principles. Sessions focus on helping you understand neuroplastic pain, decrease fear around symptoms, use somatic tracking to observe sensations safely, and gradually resume movements and activities you may have been avoiding. The goal is to retrain the brain’s prediction of danger so that your nervous system can downshift and symptoms can fade.
I am certified in Pain Reprocessing Therapy and am currently completing a Master of Social Work, with over 200 practicum hours working with individuals facing substance use challenges. That experience informs my understanding of how patterns like over-focus on symptoms, safety behaviors, and avoidance can function a bit like “addictions” to pain and illness, and how structured change work can help people shift out of those loops. I have accumulated more than 800 hours of experience working directly with TMS and neuroplasticity pain clients using these methods.
At this time, 60‑minute coaching sessions are $65. Coaching is educational and skills-focused and is best suited for people whose pain has been medically evaluated and is likely neuroplastic rather than driven by an untreated structural condition. The work is not always linear, and ups and downs are expected. Still, the aim remains consistent: building your sense of safety, reducing fear, and supporting your nervous system in resetting so pain and other sensations can settle.
